When we launched the SMARTIES Instagram feed, we did something no other brand had done: we said “Hi” to Canada with a beloved product. To do that, we created a giant SMARTIES mosaic of the 9 most popular first names on Instagram and then went to town on tagging. We made a lot of new friends that day, including Canadian crooner Michael Bublé, and grew our audience to thousands – completely organically.
To keep that momentum going, we asked Canada a simple question: How do you SMARTIES? Canadians have always had their own special way of eating SMARTIES: some sort, some colour code, some crunch ‘em all at once. Canada got creative and shared thousands of entries: colourful artwork, delectable baked goods, and even a puppy jumping through a hoop of SMARTIES. So, that was pretty great. Since then, the SMARTIES Instagram account has jumped to over 50,000 followers making it the most followed Canadian confectionary brand on the platform.
