A Truly Multi-talented Team
Jim Thorpe is undoubtedly the greatest multi-sport athlete of all time. In 1912, he won Olympic gold in both the pentathlon and decathlon. He played professional football for 13 years, Major League Baseball for seven years and professional basketball for at least two.
He was an athlete first. He simply applied his athletic skills to whichever sport he chose. That’s they type of skilled designer we look to hire; amazing designers who simply apply their skill to other areas.
For example, when we look for a new interactive designer, they of course need to have a killer aesthetic, a great sense of user flow
and an strong understanding of languages for which they design – that’s a given. But the next question in the interview is always “So, what else do you do?” We’re always looking for what else they can bring to the table: are they an illustrator, a musician, a programmer, a motion designer, a chef, DJ, photographer, model maker, and so on…
When we can bring multi-talented people on board (the ‘Jim Thorpe’ s of design), we can keep more work in-house, which means we can ensure the quality of the work is always on point. We don’t like to think of ourselves as a 25 person shop. We like to think of ourselves as a 78 talent shop.
